welcome!

about· Megan Gentry is a certified art therapist and artist.

As an art therapist, she has worked with children coping with parental cancer and with in-patient adults at the University of Freiburg Hospital at the Center for Psychosocial Cancer Counseling and Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Freiburg, Germany. She combines evidence-based therapy interventions with art therapy techniques. She specializes in substance abuse, depression and stress management and also supports patients with anxiety, borderline, and bipolar disorders.

As an artist, she is interested in narrative and resilience through abstraction, representation, and portraiture. She works with oil, watercolor, and mixed media and incorporates found objects into her work, believing the material itself to imbue the artwork with significant meaning.

Here's a little more detail.

Hi! I'm Meg.

I'm passionate about people, resilience, growth, and the life-giving potential of creativity. I'm thrilled to share these passions with the community around me!

I believe that using creativity in the psychotherapeutic process can be a powerful way to grow, heal, explore, understand life experiences in a fresh way, and thrive.

I'm an American and German citizen and have been based in Freiburg and Berlin, Germany, and Chicago, New York, and Texas, USA. I received my BA in fine art at Houghton College, NY, USA and art therapy certification at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences, Freiburg, Germany, where I am currently completing my MA in art therapy. Since completing my art therapy certification, I began work with children in stressful life circumstances at "Tigerherz... when Parents have Cancer" and at the University of Freiburg Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. There I work with in-patient adult patients coping with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, borderline, and bipolar disorders. I have also worked with adults affected by dementia and stroke. I absolutely love this work!

My research interests involve the link between adverse childhood experiences and addiction and the formative effects of generational trauma and early childhood on mental health, parenting strategies, and coping mechanisms.

I also work as an artist through commissions, projects, and teaching. I speak native English, C2 German, and have basic understanding of Spanish. I'm a mother of four precious Littles, a lover of travel and cultures, and a life-long learner.

Thanks for joining me in this space!
